The University of Ibadan (UI) aspires to be a world class institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs. Accordingly, the University fosters excellence in all aspects of its teaching, research, administration, management and community service functions, through high quality staff and a conducive work environment. This has enabled UI to maintain its pride of place in the nation’s rapidly changing higher education scene, marked chiefly by the continuing national effort to expand access to university education in Nigeria through the sustained licensing of new universities. This development is fraught with a number of challenges for UI, one of which being how to continually sustain and enhance the University’s national and global competitiveness. To deal with this and related challenges, the University is adopting a strategic approach to staff recruitment, retention and development, as well as mentoring and succession planning. This document sets out the key elements of the strategy.
