Call for Papers:
Government Policies and Changing Employment Relations Practice in Nigeria
(A Book in Honour of Late Professor M.A.L Omole)
The question of the relationship between government policies and employment relations, particularly in the face of globalization, technological advancements and recession has been a subject of interest to a number of industrial relations researchers and practitioners over the past years.
The attempts by national governments across Africa to reduce economic distortions and financial imbalances through economic recovery policies has led to the introduction of drastic measures which resulted into the curtailment of employment relations practices. The changes in government policies have far-reaching impacts on the employment relations practices as a component of the over-all socio-political processes. This has come to mean that in many instances, the ‘traditional’ trade union roles and functions are being redefined with far-reaching effects on the protection of worker’s rights and employment security. Besides, the present unstable political and security situations in the country have also been accomplished by general decline of security of employment, evidence in increase labour market flexibility and easier ‘hiring and firing’ processes in the Nigerian workplaces.
This book which is dedicated to the Late Prof. M.A.L Omole is a major attempt to critical examines the interception between government policies and employment relations practices. It will also draw some tentative conclusions with regard to future prospects and likely trends as well as call for strengthening of the tripartite relationships in addressing the problems of development.
