Consensus Building Workshops

As a result of the bottom-top strategy adopted for gender mainstreaming in UI, a consensus building workshop was necessary. The workshop was designed to aggregate consensus from participating staff and students. This was to enable them own the outcome of the efforts put into the draft polices by the gender mainstreaming committee.

The Peer Educators’ workshop was held between 5th and 6th of August 2011. This was done in collaboration with the Faculty Student Associations. Students from various faculties and departments were selected and invited to the workshop. The general objective of the workshop was to train a critical mass of female and male students on gender and sexual harassment issues in order for them to engage their peers on gender and sexual harassment issues through appropriate and effective ways of communication

Gender Mainstreaming Office is also open to hearing and investigating gender issues and cases of sexual/gender violence and sexual harassment among staff and students within the university. The University community is encouraged to visit the GMO for sensitization, collaboration, information gathering/sharing, etc. The GMO also has large membership among staff and students as Gender Focal Persons and Peer Educators across departments/faculties and the college of Medicine.
