Announcement and Call for Abstracts
Introduction/Background |
We invite you to the third Unibadan Conference of Biomedical Research (UCBR-3) for an exciting and fruitful conference, hoping our colleagues from outside the University of Ibadan have a very pleasant stay in Ibadan, enriched with new information and fresh ideas, collaborative contacts and friendships which the conference and the University of Ibadan, the capital of medical research and practice in Nigeria, offer to every participant.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Biotechnology for Health and Sustainable Development”. The 2012 conference will be held at the Conference Center, University of Ibadan from July 23 to July 27, 2012. The following sub-themes have been carefully selected:
Ø Basic Sciences, Technology & Medicine
Ø Natural products and drug development
Ø Gene Therapy, stem cell, tissue culture and nuclear medicine
Ø Immunology, Infection and Preventive measures
Ø Epidemiology, disease monitoring and surveillance
Ø Ethical issues in biomedical research
Ø Contemporary issues in Toxicology
Target Participants |
This conference is open to all cadres of staff and students in Medicine and Medical Sciences, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pure Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering and other health care programs, the conference is aimed at addressing the much needed aspect of biotechnology in relation to health and development. It is also a platform for better interaction between senior and younger faculty members from the various institutions in the country in hopes of promoting the best attitude and research culture for the present and future generations of Biomedical Researchers in Africa.

The conference is hosted by the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan. Ibadan, Nigeria and will be held at the Conference center, University of Ibadan. Ibadan, Nigeria as scheduled below:

Conference Registration Information
Students (Full-time) N3,000
(Students shall be expected to present their ID cards and HODs recommendation at the registration desk of the conference

Ø Registration fee will cover conference bag, book of abstract, writing materials and reception cocktail.
Ø Certificate of attendance will be issued to participants
Mode of Registration
Ø Registration shall be made online. Please visit the conference web page http://journals.ui.edu.ng/journals/index.php/UCBR/index for your registration.
Ø Delegates can also register on site at the conference venue. However, only participants who have paid their registration fee by June 29, 2012 will have their abstracts scheduled for presentation and included in the book of abstract.

Cancellation policy
Ø Seventy five percent (75%) of registration fee will be refunded to individual who cancel their registration in writing by June 12, 2012. No refund will be granted after the deadline.

Call for Abstracts/Papers |
Abstracts are invited from interested participants on any topic within the context of the conference theme. Abstracts should be submitted by Friday, June 29, 2012. Presenters will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts and the appropriate session for presentation – the full papers should be submitted by Friday, August 10, 2012 (i.e. 2 weeks after the conference). Papers will be peer reviewed; only accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
Authors MUST ensure that their abstracts (which should not be more than 300 words) contain the following information:
o An introductory sentence indicating the purposes of the study.
o · A brief description of pertinent experimental procedures.
o · A summary of the unpublished data.
o A statement of the conclusions.
- Word processing should be with MS Word, Font size 12pts Times New Roman, 2.5cm margins all round, justified margins and double-spaced.
- The abstract should be submitted online through the conference proceedings and abstract submission portal at http://journals.ui.edu.ng/journals/index.php/UCBR/index and by email as an attachment to UCBR@gmail.com. This is mandatory as only abstracts harvested from the submission portal will be processed. An additional hard copy may be submitted to the conference secretariat.
- All contact details (including cell phone, email, mailing address) should be provided to ensure that presenters can easily be reached.
Deadline
Deadline for submission of abstracts is 1600 hrs on Friday, June 29, 2012.
Presentations
Presenting authors may send their PowerPoint presentations direct to the conference secretariat at UCBR@gmail.com OR bring along to the conference, a file copy of the presentation, on a FLASH DRIVE.
Pre-conference Workshop |
A pre-conference workshop on the Application of Molecular Biology Techniques to Biomedical Research will be held on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th July 2012.
