In response to the state of violent attacks, suicide bombings, mass killings, displacement of persons and kidnappings which have created enormous challenges to the security system in Nigeria with attendant negative image for the country within local and international communities, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CEPACS), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, in collaboration with Konrad Adaenaeur Stiftung (KAS), a German Foundation based in Abuja, will hold a One-Day Round Table deliberation on the situation with optimism of recommending practicable solutions on Wednesday, 18 January, 2012 in the Trenchard Hall of the institution.
In a statement by the University’s Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, said that the Theme of the Conference is Security, Governance and Sustainable Development. The lead speaker is Lt. Gen A.B. Dambazau (Rtd), CFR, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who is currently a Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, USA, researching into security and development issues in Nigeria.
Mr. Oladejo further stated that “various reasons have been adduced as the root causes of these occurrences that seem to have defied all manner of interventions. This, therefore, calls for the engagement of multiple stakeholders as it has the capacity to threaten the development, job security, human security, food security and in general the corporate existence of Nigeria as a country”. He said that the conference is, therefore, a part of CEPACS’ responsibilities to the community.
Lt. Gen A.B. Dambazau (Rtd) will be hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac F. Adewole, FAS, Principal Officers and the Board of Fellows of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CEPACS), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, the release added.
